2D Baby Scanning in Stirling at the Estheva Medical Aesthetic Clinic

A 2D scan is the conventional ultrasound scan offered to all through NHS Scotland when you reach between 11 and 14 weeks. For many expectant Mums-to-be, this first scan makes it hit home that they are actually pregnant. It is confirmation. It is what we, at The Scan Room @ Estheva, call our “Nice to Meet You” baby scan.

It is much more than the first meeting with your unborn though. It is a time that a Sonographer, who is a professionally trained and registered health professional, can provide a first wellness check

The 2D baby scan is also helpful in determining your baby’s expected arrival date, and it confirms whether you are pregnant with one baby or more. For planning for your baby’s arrival, it definitely helps to know early if there is more than one in development.

Get a More Accurate Expected Date from a 2D Baby Scan

In this exciting time of your pregnancy, it is natural to want to know your baby’s Expected Delivery Date (EDD). Until an early pregnancy ultrasound is done, the EDD can only be predicted based on your last menstrual period.

The earlier a 2D baby scan is done, the more accurate the expected delivery date can be. And, if you plan to have more baby scans done throughout your baby’s development journey, the measurements taken at each scan can help your healthcare team with diagnostics.

At The Scan Room @ Estheva, our team is fully qualified, registered, and regulated, however, our 2D scans are not diagnostical. This is why private 2D scans are referred to as “2D Reassurance Scans”. Our team all have a vast experience in midwifery and understand pregnancy and the stages of fetus growth. We can provide assurance that things are progressing as expected, explain anything unexpected, and refer to an appropriate medical professional where required.

What to Expect from a 2D Baby Scan

Not very much visually, yet plenty to get excited about. Only the skeletal shape of a fetus can be seen, as well as the organs. Although there is little to see, there is plenty happening beneath the bump. We let you see early what you can only feel. By 8 weeks, the skeletal shape is formed, tiny webbed toes and fingers are developing, and once the CRL measurement is longer than 7mm, the ultrasound can detect your baby’s heartbeat.

Our 2D baby scanning package provides you, (and those closest to you if you want to bring family or friends to share the experience), the opportunity to visualise your baby’s heartbeat, detect if you are pregnant with more than one, and determine what trimester stage you are in.

2D baby scanning at Stirling’s Scan Room @ Estheva takes around 15 to 20 minutes and includes up to 5 black and white printed scan photos, although this is dependent upon the position the baby is in.

3D Baby Scanning in Stirling at the Estheva Medical Aesthetic Clinic

By the second trimester of your pregnancy, things will feel like they are moving fast. Soon-to-be parents are excited to meet their unborn for the first time. With our 3D baby scanning technology, you needn’t wait until full-term to see your newborn’s face; to discover the baby’s gender, or if he/she has a button nose like Mummy or a concave nose like Daddy.

3D Baby Scans Explained

Three-dimensional baby scans are multiple 2D images that are pieced together using technology to form a life-like resemblance of your baby’s facial features. It is ultrasound technology that is used, the same as all 2D antenatal scans.

Unlike your first early pregnancy scan which is flat, the 3D baby scan is much more of a photograph of your unborn in the womb.

Baby scans in 3D let you see your baby, capture a life-like photo, and can be done from 16 weeks up to 32 weeks.

What to Expect from a 3D Baby Scan

Expect to meet your baby for the first time, and have an intimate bonding experience. The stage of your pregnancy you are at when you have a 3D ultrasound done will determine what experience you are more likely to have.

The earliest stage of your baby’s development journey for a 3D scan to show the full picture is 16 weeks. However, by week 26, that is when they can open their eyelids. By week 28, they are able to dream.

Keep in mind that what can be captured will be determined by the position of the baby at the time of your scan. Our experienced Sonographers will take scans from multiple angles to give it our best attempts at capturing quality images.

We use the latest technology for both 3D and 4D baby scan packages and the Scan Room has additional seating for up to three people if you would like to share the bonding experience with your closest family or friends.

How to Prepare for a 3D Baby Scan

Generally, the fuller your bladder, the better the images that can be captured with 3D baby scanning technology.

If you want to see your baby awake, it helps to show up early and walk around for 10-minutes. Light exercise will keep your baby awake, and s/he is unlikely to fall asleep again as soon as your scan starts.

An important decision to let us know about is whether you want your Sonographer to reveal the gender. If you want to keep it a surprise, we will keep that knowledge secret and tuck it away in an envelope for you to reveal when you are ready.

Additional Antenatal Reassurance with our 3D Baby Scanning Service

Each of our team members is a trained, experienced, and qualified Sonographer with a plethora of midwifery experience. As with all our baby scanning packages, we provide reassurance that your pregnancy is going to plan, provide you with a detailed report of your baby’s development, including measurements, and confirm your expected delivery date.

3D Baby Scans Delivered to Your Phone Instantly

Our 3D scans are uploaded to Tricefy where you can view and share your 3D baby scans from within the Tricefy app. It is a free patient care app available from the App Store and Google Play Store. All data is confidential and encrypted, and we include a scan report with each of the baby scanning packages. You can share (and we encourage you to share these reports) with your healthcare team.  The more informed your healthcare providers are, the better antenatal care you can receive.

We also include up to 5 black and white prints when possible. It depends on the baby’s position.

4D Baby Scanning in Stirling at the Estheva Medical Aesthetic Clinic

4D Ultrasound is a more advanced version of a 3D baby scan. The difference between 3D and 4D baby scanning is the addition of time.  It is a 3D baby scan that has the images refreshed in real-time resulting in a motion video. You get to see your baby move in the womb in real-time. Ain’t technology amazing!

Watch Your Baby Move in the Womb from 24 to 32 Weeks

By 24 weeks of your baby’s development journey, there is far more to see than the initial skeletal structure shown on early pregnancy scans which are 2D. Much of the development has already happened. From 24 to 32 weeks is when 4D baby scanning lets you see their little movements in real-time.

Fingers are visible, legs are uncurling from the torso and they can open and close their eyelids, and mouths, suck on their thumb and open and close their hands to form a fist.

Beyond the 32 weeks stage, it is possible to have a 4D ultrasound, however, in this last stage of your pregnancy, the baby puts on a third to a half of their weight. Things get cramped making it trickier to capture movement with a 4D ultrasound.

Share Your Experience Instantly

In this globally connected world where close relatives are living in different countries or continents and perhaps partners working overseas so unable to attend every antenatal appointment with you, the 4D baby scanning package can be used to share the exact images and video you experienced instantly.

The Scan Room in Stirling uses Trice Imaging to share 3D images and 4D baby scan motion videos with you. From the Tricefy for Patients app, you can download or share any image or video. Images are JPG (print quality image files), and videos are MP4. These can be shared over secure messaging, or via any of the many instant communication apps, including social media.

With our 4D baby scanning service, we include up to 10 images (depending on if we can capture that many), and there is an option to have an MP4 recording of your session uploaded to secure cloud servers too.

Just as with all our baby scanning packages, The Scan Room provides a baby wellness check, record measurements, includes a report with your scan, and we can reveal the baby’s gender if you want to know. If not, do let your Sonographer know because with 4D baby scanning, if the probe is moved too low in the womb, it will be obvious at this later stage in your pregnancy what the baby’s gender is. When we know that you do not want to know the gender of the baby, we can focus only on the baby’s facial features, hands, and shoulders.

For surprise gender reveals, our Sonographer can advise when to look away from the HD Live screen in The Scan Room and keep the gender secret until you are ready to know. We can give you a sealed envelope to open when you are ready.

A 4D Baby Scanning Package Makes a Great Gift

At The Scan Room, Stirling, we do offer gift vouchers. 4D baby scanning is not an essential antenatal scan. For soon-to-be parents, there will be plenty of budgeting happening and decisions made on what is needed and what is not. This is one of those great-to-have keepsakes, and an exciting experience for all the family, and their friends.
